O 'Malley leads the Rams to a Close Win

The Garces boys won by one point over the Drillers so every spot was a battle. The gaps between runners was pretty big so the coaches probably running around like crazy trying to implore their athletes to catch another runner.

In the girls race, Guzman took second but was followed by three Drillers which made it hard for the Rams to take the team competition.

Guzman leads Garces for one last season

Garces ran its best team time of 112:08 at Valley: Their top five girls averaged 22:26.

Monica Guzman (Sr) is another top notch runner in the SEYL who is known for her front running style. In the past she has
always gotten caught in the big meets (usually by Baker) but still places high. One day, she will get her hard charging style
dialed in and she might not come back to the field. This past track season, she was very consistent and posted some excellant
times in the 3200 and 1600.

Last year at valley, Monica came in second and qualified for the state meet

Garces is a small school but usually has a good size team. Senior Connor O'Mally has qualified for state as an individual in the past and will in the mix for an individual SEYL crown. Interestingly this state qualifier doesn't run distance races in track, he runs the 400.

Phillip McCullum was the 13th Best High Jumper in the State

An early high jump of 6-8.25 was enough to make McCullum the best in the section all year. In the postseason, tied for second in the section with a 6-6 jump and then narrowly missed the state finals in a preliminary jump-off. McCullum also competed in relays and in middle-distance events. Phillip McCullum - High Jump

McCullum has been the top jumper in the valley all season long with his 6'8.25 jump earlier in the season. But injuries have slowed his training recently. Despite the injuries, he has managed to qualify for state and hopes to make the finals at state.
